Here is the synopsis: “Beautiful, intelligent and rich— Lee Eun-Mi has it all but for some reason, her Marriage Prospect, Hyun-jun, doesn’t seem to like her… in fact, he hates her! All she wanted was to choose the perfect partner for the future but things just won’t go as she planned—and now she’s pulled into the center of a complex love quadrangle… and she’s the only outsider.” -Line Webtoon
If you know anything about me from reading my blog posts its that I love conflict in romance stories. And the more conflict the better! I think that’s one of the reasons why I’m so attracted to webtoons, because I hardly read one that doesn’t have a lot of drama. What drew me to this webtoon was the synopsis mentioned a love quandrangle without the main character in it. I’m interested to read along and see how the author is going to achieve this.
There aren’t currently many chapters available to read so the plot isn’t very developed. So far it has been about Lee pursuing Hyun-jin as her marriage prospect at the request of his father who wants her to convince Hyun-jin to become motivated and take over the CEO position at his father’s company. However, Hyun-jin finds Lee’s personality to be very cold and too career focused for him so he decides he doesn’t like her, even though he hasn’t taken to the time to really get to know her.
What is keeping me interested in this webtoon is the dynamic between the two main characters. While Lee and Hyun-jin have different career ambitions they actually share a lot of similarities in their upbringing and personalities. They balance each other’s bad qualities out, which makes them the perfect couple. It’s funny because their sarcastic comments and attitudes toward one another make them seem like a married couple. I’m excited to see their backstories and get a better understanding of why they act the way they do.
- Both have similar, cold personalities toward other people. Lee is cold to everyone from her employees to her marriage prospects. While Hyun-jin is not as cold as Lee is, he doesn’t have the outgoing and likable personality like some of the other rich heir characters in manga and even within the boundaries of this webtoon.
- Both are from rich families and are the heir to a large corporation. Lee is currently the CEO of her family’s company and Hyun-jin’s the heir to his father’s company but doesn’t care for the responsibility and wants to pursue an art career instead.
- Both don’t actually like each other. Lee is disappointed by Hyun-jin’s lack of motivation and is pursuing a marriage with him at the request of his father who is also her business colleague. Hyun-jin doesn’t like Lee because he thinks she has a cold personality and cares too much about her company, a trait he despises and something he can’t personally relate to.
- Both don’t actually care too much for romance. Lee is not looking for love but someone who she can partner with for the good of her business. Hyun-jin has many girls who are interested in him but he has not reciprocated any of their feelings and doesn’t seem to be attracted to anyone else.
I’m excited to see the character and romance development progress because right now in my opinion both main characters aren’t very likable. But I think that is one of the challenges the author has put in this webtoon to increase the conflict in the characters becoming a couple. I personally think that the more time Lee and Hyun-jin spend together, the more they are going to pick up one another’s traits. I think Lee will motivate Hyun-jin to work hard and Hyun-jin will motivate Lee not to be so career focused. I hope this webtoon is going to be one of those romances where the characters never thought they would fall for one another and don’t want to, but ending up falling in love with one another in the end.
I also want to point out that if you look closer at the cover art for this webtoon you will realize the man with Lee on the cover isn’t actually Hyun-jin. Does that mean they won’t actually get together?! I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out!
